Exclusive gateway

Used to create diverging, alternative paths within a process when only one of the alternative paths can be taken.

Conditions are evaluated on the outgoing sequence flows, not on the gateway itself. Each condition expression must evaluate to true or false. Collibra evaluates the outgoing sequence flows in the order defined by the Flow order property and follows the first one whose condition evaluates to true.

If more than one condition evaluates to true, only the first defined sequence flow is followed. Design your process to ensure conditions are mutually exclusive. If no condition evaluates to true, the process gets stuck. To prevent this, mark one outgoing sequence flow as a default flow.

Advanced properties

Property
Description

Whether the activity starts as an asynchronous job, placing a transaction boundary before the activity:

  • No (default): Synchronous.

  • Yes, exclusive: Asynchronous and with no other exclusive asynchronous jobs in the same process run at the same time.

  • Yes, non-exclusive: Asynchronous and can run concurrently with other asynchronous jobs in the same process.

Leave asynchronously

Whether the activity leaves as an asynchronous job after it completes, placing a transaction boundary before the process advances to the next element:

  • No (default): Synchronous.

  • Yes, exclusive: Asynchronous and with no other exclusive asynchronous jobs in the same process run at the same time.

  • Yes, non-exclusive: Asynchronous and can run concurrently with other asynchronous jobs in the same process.
